Care

Teak needs no treatment to survive — only if you want to keep its colour. Left alone it silvers gracefully within two to three seasons.

  1. 1Wash twice a year with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, working along the grain.
  2. 2Rinse thoroughly and let the timber dry fully before sitting on it.
  3. 3To keep the honey tone, apply teak oil once each spring to clean, dry timber.
  4. 4Lift surface marks with a fine (240 grit) sanding block along the grain.
  5. 5Treat food or wine spills promptly with warm soapy water.

Seasonal note. No need to bring it indoors. If you prefer, a breathable cover over winter reduces green algae bloom in shaded, damp positions — never use a non-breathable plastic sheet.

Behind the piece

The story

Made by The Garden Marketplace

Our teak is grown in managed plantations, felled on rotation and replanted — every bench is traceable to a certified forest block. The workshops we buy from have been building outdoor seating for over thirty years, and the same craftspeople hand-finish each frame, easing every edge by hand so there is nothing sharp to catch a sleeve.

We hold no seasonal collections and no throwaway ranges. This bench has been in production, essentially unchanged, for a decade — because there is nothing about it that needed changing.

Questions & answers

  • Does this need to be covered over winter, or can I leave it out on the lawn?

    Asked by Margaret H. · 6 Jul 2026

    • The Outdoor Living Co.Staff23 Jul

It can stay out all year with no cover at all — teak's natural oils and the solid brass fixings handle British winters without trouble. The only reason to use a breathable cover is cosmetic, in a very shaded, damp spot where green algae can bloom. Never use a plastic sheet, as trapped moisture does more harm than the weather.

  • Do you sell a cushion that fits this bench properly?

    Asked by Alan W. · 25 Jul 2026

    • The Outdoor Living Co.Staff23 Jul

Yes — our Linen scatter cushion set is sized for this bench, and the brushed outdoor throw sits well over the back. Both are shown in the "goes well with" section on this page.

  • How difficult is the assembly? I will be on my own.

    Asked by Priya S. · 21 Jul 2026

    • The Outdoor Living Co.Staff23 Jul

It is genuinely straightforward, but we would recommend a second pair of hands for the five minutes when the back section is offered up to the frame. Everything else can be done solo in about twenty minutes with the supplied tools. If you would rather not, add our assembly service at checkout and the delivery team will build it for you.

  • Is the teak really solid all the way through, or is it a veneer over something cheaper?

    Asked by Tom P. · 16 Jul 2026

    • The Outdoor Living Co.Staff23 Jul

Solid throughout. Every component — legs, arms, back and seat slats — is cut from grade-A solid teak at 50mm on the structural sections. There are no veneers and no softwood cores anywhere in the bench, which is why it weighs 34kg.
